About me
Malte Stump
My connection to music began early. I started playing the violin at the age of eight, and from the very beginning it was not only the sound that fascinated me, but the instrument itself. This interest in the instrument as a whole has accompanied my work ever since.
Driven by a strong interest in the interplay of precision, patience and aesthetic sensitivity required to bring out an instrument’s full expressive potential, I began my training as a violin maker in 2019 at the violin workshop Bley & Sohn, which I completed successfully in 2022.
International experience at W.E. Hill & Sons, Iris Carr Restorations, as well as close collaboration with Robert Brewer Young, further broadened my expertise and allowed me to work with instruments of significant historical and artistic value.
In 2025, I founded my own workshop, Arbol.
Here, traditional craftsmanship is combined with modern analytical methods. My approach is to carry out restorations not only with functional accuracy, but also with aesthetic and tonal coherence in mind. Transparent consultation, careful documentation, advanced techniques and a respectful approach to every detail are integral parts of my work. In this way, I aim to ensure that each instrument is not only preserved, but can continue to express its individual history and character.

Opening of my own violin making workshop, "Arbol".
